Can you tell us a bit about your role and responsibilities at Brough Partners?
As the Head of Court of Protection my role is to oversee and manage a broad range of tasks and responsibilities. This includes drafting Bills of Costs and dealing with the whole process up to and following a detailed assessment. I work closely with clients by providing training and support as well as any guidance required to ensure best practices and to improve recoveries on assessment. I am responsible for training and recruitment of new COP staff members as well as being involved in Business Development to ensure our continuous improvement and growth.

What’s the best thing about your job and being part of the Brough Partners team?
The best thing about being part of Brough Partners is the feeling that you are part of something special and part of the company’s journey. There is a very keen sense of belonging and support throughout, which gives me the drive and motivation to continue excelling within my role for both my team and our clients, which is always our utmost priority.

Tell us what it is that makes Brough Partners different to other costs law firms?
Brough Partners brings something unique to the market due to our focus on superior client service, our experienced and caring people and our specific mission to deliver an unmatched level of work. Furthermore, Brough Partners also places significant value on their staff and ensures that the team’s opinions and ideas are heard and considered.

If you had 3 words to describe Brough Partners, what would they be?
Loyal, pragmatic, resourceful.

In another life, if you weren’t a budding costs law professional, what other job would you have had?
I always wanted to be a vet and devote my life to caring for animals. If I had the means I would have also liked to have started a sanctuary for animals.

What’s the best bit of business advice you have ever been given?
Believe you can, and you are halfway there”. If you can overcome the psychological obstacles of believing in yourself then you are already there. Whilst easier said than done, an assumption that we lack the potential of achieving something, may just be the reason why we are keeping ourselves from doing it.

Tell us one interesting fact that people might not know about you
I am originally from Portugal and have lived in the UK for 16 years. On the 16th year I also received my dual citizenship.

Name 4 people dead or alive you would invite to a dinner party
Ricky Gervais – purely because he is hilarious and a great advocate for animal rights.
Robin Williams – a great actor and comedian and looked like a genuinely good-hearted person.
Aretha Franklin– that would be the entertainment sorted for the evening and what a night it would be.
David Attenborough – no reason needed, he’s an absolute legend.

When you are not at work, how do you like to spend your time?
I love travelling, discovering new and exciting places, and trying new foods. I enjoy being outdoors and going on hikes with my dog Lola. I am currently learning ice skating, which I find is equally fun and scary, and I am renovating an old house so learning lots of DIY skills which gives me a real sense of accomplishment.

Finally, who inspires you and why?
It would have to be my nan for being the strongest women I know and my biggest supporter. She has been our family’s rock for many years and the one person everyone goes to for advice, support, or just a laugh. She is the epitome of strength and such a great person overall.
